Germination Terms

At Overgrow, we take complaints very seriously. If you experience problems with your seeds, we most certainly need to know. We pass the same germination guarantees that our suppliers extend to us directly on to our clients. In short — if there is a problem with your seeds, and within reason, we will make good.

Considerations

Cannabis seeds are living organisms and, as such, there is always a small chance that some may fail to germinate. Seed viability, grower error, or less-than-ideal environmental conditions can all play a role in unsuccessful germination.

It is not our intention to assign blame, but rather to highlight the natural variability that comes with growing from seed.

Conditions

For a germination claim to be valid, the following conditions apply:

  1. Claims must be made within 30 days of purchase.

  2. All seeds from the affected order must have been germinated.

  3. You must have followed one of Overgrow’s recommended germination guides.

What to Do

If you encounter a problem, please contact us as soon as possible and include the following:

  • Your Overgrow order number.

  • The brand and strain(s), and how many failed to germinate.

  • Supporting photos or videos of your attempt (optional but welcomed).

Replacment

  • No refunds.

  • We will credit your account for approved claims.

  • Account credits exclude shipping costs.

Germination Technique: Paper Towel Method

The paper towel method is a tried-and-tested, simple “go-to” germination technique — especially for beginners. Paper towels provide a clean, pathogen-free surface, and when paired with a sterile Ziplock bag, they create a controlled environment similar to a mini greenhouse. Seeds typically sprout within 2–10 days.

What You Need

  • New, clear Ziplock bag(s) (sandwich size or larger).

  • Clean purified water (store-bought is easiest).

  • Fresh paper towels.

Method

  1. Work in a clean, sterile area.

  2. Tear a paper towel in half and moisten one side.

  3. Place seeds on the moist half and fold the other half over them.

  4. Blow open a Ziplock bag and carefully place the folded paper towel with seeds inside. Seal the bag.

  5. Store the bag in a safe, warm environment (21–25°C).

  6. Keep the paper towel moist — check at least once daily.

NB: If germinating multiple strains, use a separate labelled Ziplock bag for each.

Do Not

  • Over-moisten seeds (they may rot).

  • Expose the bag to direct, hot sunlight (seeds will dry out).

Once the Seeds Have Sprouted

At this stage, Overgrow has done its part — the rest is up to you. Sprouted seeds should be transplanted into an ideal moisture-holding medium such as vermiculite, coco, or soil. Newly germinated seeds are delicate and must be handled with care.

Good Practices

  • Handle gently, always.

  • Use tweezers to move seeds, holding the seed body or cotyledons (the first feeder leaves).

  • Make a hole deep enough to cover the entire root.

  • Keep cotyledons above the soil surface.

  • Firm the medium around the seedling to hold it upright.

  • Keep the surrounding area consistently moist.

  • Watch for pests such as snails, birds, worms, and caterpillars.

Do Not

  • Touch or damage the main taproot — if it breaks, the seedling will die.

  • Force or push seeds into the medium.

  • Overwater seedlings.
